Leap Foundation Sandcastle Contest 2016
This year we raised the bar! Team Up Up and A-wave took the challenge to raise $15,000 to benefit students around the Bay Area and we're excited to report we exceded the goal. Together we raised $16,444 for the Leap Foundation and spent a fun day sculpting a giant sandcastle with students from Jefferson Elementary School, Feldman Architecture, Peninsula Custom Homes, Niche Interiors, and Daedalus Engineering.
CANstruction 2016 - San Francisco
This year ZFA San Francisco teamed with RIM Architects, MK2 Engineers, and Swinerton Builders, to design and build "Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of HappyNUTS". Construction took a mere 2.5 hours, a record time, earning us a celebratory bottle of champagne. We raised over $2000 to support our local food bank. CANstruction is a worldwide organization which hosts local competitions to raise funds and food for hunger relief.
CANstruction 2016 - Santa Rosa
Our can sculpture, known as "Hope You're Not Allergic To Peanuts" brought home the Best Use of Labels award this year! ZFA Santa Rosa teamed with Quattrocchi Kwok Architects and TLCD, to design and construct Snoopy's Dog House and colorful backdrop. Our efforts funded 6,470 meals for our local food bank.
Leap Foundation Sandcastle Contest 2015
The Leap Foundation provides more than 25 Bay Area schools and 6000 students with arts experiences designed to help youngsters reach their full potential. ZFA participated in the 32nd annual Sandcastle Contest and teamed with local builders and architects to sculpt "Sand Wars" and raise $10,000 to fund the arts program at the Jefferson School.
Napa Community 9/11 Memorial
The community of Napa acquired 30 tons of steel – pieces of the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in order to create a memorial. A public-private collaboration was formed to complete this memorial. ZFA provided the structural engineering services for the glass panels to be attached to the steel beams. The panels honor the victims of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
Ella's Art Studio
ZFA donated the structural engineering services for Ella's Art Studio which holds deep sentiment in the Santa Rosa community. Ella Bisbee was a young girl with artistic inclinations, who died after an accident during a family vacation. Ella’s aunt had a vision to build an art studio in Ella’s memory and created a fund for donations. This studio was formerly a farmhouse located on the site of the Santa Rosa Children’s Art Museum.
Redwood Empire Food Bank
REFB, located in Santa Rosa underwent a $4 million facility renovation in 2013. ZFA donated structural engineering services for this project and ZFA staff routinely volunteer helping sort cans and stock shelves at the food bank.
LEAP Sandcastle Competition
Each year, there is a competition to design the best sandcastle. Contractors, architects, and engineers team to design the works of art that are built by volunteers in the industry and in the Bay Area schools. All funds raised through sponsorships go to fund art education in the schools. ZFA staff volunteer their time to assist in building the best sandcastle!
ACE Mentor Program
ACE (Architecture | Construction | Engineering) program is a group of mentors in the industry who work with high school students interested in one of these areas as a career. ZFA staff volunteer their time to help design and build bridge models, and give presentations to students on structural engineering.
CANstruction is an annual competition designed to have some fun and raise money for local food banks. Engineering and Architectural firms team to design sculptures made with cans of food. ZFA Santa Rosa and ZFA San Francisco volunteered time and services for the Santa Rosa and San Francisco area CANstruction events.
