Lightstorm Entertainment had a goal of powering 100% of the filming and production of the AVATAR sequels with solar energy. In order to preserve the limited parking spaces, the solution required installation of the modules on the barrel-shaped roofs of three of the movie studio buildings. The design solution included the most efficient solar modules available with a custom elevated racking system to accommodate the non-standard roof type. The racking design allowed for the maximum amount of solar modules to be installed at a 15 degree tilt and point exactly 180 degrees south, providing peak solar production. The three solar arrays cover 212,481 square feet and include 3,692 solar modules with an energy capacity of 960 kW DC.
