This 12-story building is 75 feet by 175 feet in plan. Built in the 1960s, the structural system consists of cast-in-place concrete. It is located within one kilometer of the active Hayward seismic fault. A seismic retrofit was designed using the nonlinear analysis procedures of the ASCE 41 standard. The proposed retrofit scope includes new concrete shear walls in select locations and reinforcement of existing concrete columns with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP). Recently, this building served as the subject of a trial evaluation using Applied Technology Council’s ATC 78-3 Seismic Evaluation of Older Concrete Frame Buildings for Collapse Potential. ZFA was contracted by ATC to assist in calibrating and reviewing the methodology prior to publication of the report.
