Heavy timber framing, including log member long-span trusses with architectural aesthetics, are used to evoke the essence of the Bristlecone Pine Forest. This 3,000 square foot, LEED Gold, jewel-in-the-rough project incorporates an exhibition area, a theater with stadium seating, office space, and off-the-grid mechanical systems (including photo-voltaic), as well as an open observation deck with displays. Native sourced materials and heavy-timber framing constitute the structural design, with log and cable roof trusses emphasizing structure within the space and supporting 120 psf roof snow loads. Construction completed in 2011. Cost of construction was approximately $1.2 million.
