Mather, CA

VA Northern California Health Care System is an integrated health care delivery system, offering a comprehensive array of medical, surgical, rehabilitative, mental health and extended care to veterans in Northern California. One of the facilities in this healthcare system is this consolidated outpatient surgical specialty clinic. The new, two-story structure is steel framed with a floor and roof structure made of concrete on composite steel and concrete wide flange beams and girders, and steel columns. The exterior construction is a glass curtain wall and steel stud framing.

Built with a target of achieving gold certification from LEED — the center is made from American products. It is heavily insulated, has floor-to-ceiling windows that allow use of natural light and reflect heat to lower energy consumption. Solar panels on roof tops and in parking lots are expected to generate 70 percent of the energy needed to run the facility. The design required conformance with OSHPD 3 requirements.
