Mighty Arrow Residence

Category: Live
Occidental, CA

With fabulous views of Mount Saint Helena, the coastal redwoods, and Mammoth Rock, the Mighty Arrow residence is a unique home situated on 80 acres in Occidental, California. The project consisted of the design and construction of a main residence and a barn, as well as the remodel of a farmhouse on the property. Designed for indoor-outdoor living, the wood-framed home features three wings connected by breezeways: the entry, living room, dining area, kitchen, and laundry are on the east side; the primary bedroom is located in the middle; and two guest rooms with a shared bath are on the west side. The residence consists of low-shed roofs, Corten steel (fire resistant) for the siding, expansive glazing, and strategic structural steel. In order to align with Sonoma County building requirements, additional fire resistant materials included board-form concrete, and Shou Sugi Ban (charred wood). This was an exceptional collaboration among the project team to bring the owner’s vision to life, delivering a light footprint-design, and honoring their commitment to using concrete, wood, and metal in their natural form.
