Morgan Hill – Butterfield Fire Station

Category: Work
Morgan Hill, CA

The 6,000-square-foot Morgan Hill – Butterfield Fire Station consists of a single-story fire station with two drive-through apparatus bays, living areas, a fitness room, a radio room, four offices, and a conference room.

The structure is wood-framed and utilizes manufactured wood trusses to produce an efficient roof design that can also be erected quickly in the field. Special detailing is also provided at the narrow apparatus bay door shear walls in order to eliminate the need for structural steel frames.

The structural design needed to accommodate the various roof slopes, hips, and valleys, as well as the above-ceiling MEP equipment. ZFA provided truss layout plans and schematic truss profiles to convey complex framing conditions. Additional coordination with the architectural and mechanical teams was required to ensure adequate spaces could be provided for MEP systems within the trusses, while also achieving the desired roof profile.
