San Jose Mineta Airport Facilities Buildings

Category: Work
San Jose, CA

This design-build project consisted of a new Facilities Division Building that includes an 8,650-square-foot, five-bay Fleet Maintenance Building, and a 15,850-square-foot, two-story Administration and Shops Building. Certified LEED Silver, the buildings are constructed with steel roof and floor framing supported by perimeter shotcrete walls. Shotcrete walls were chosen due to the height restrictions adjacent to an airport runway that prevented the use of cranes, which would be required to construct concrete tilt-up panels.

In addition to the administration and shop areas, the project scope included a covered wash bay, a bioretention area, trash receptacles, a backup generator enclosure, two above-ground tanks, and a drive-through car wash.

One challenging aspect of this project was a compressed timeline, and the early design of structural and electrical systems was necessary to expedite procurement schedules. The facility was completed successfully within 400 days.
