Steve Heyne, SE

Senior Associate

Steve began his career servicing mostly education clients designing public and private school buildings and honing his skills working with the Division of the State Architect (DSA). After the 2014 South Napa Earthquake, his focus shifted to historic building repairs of the myriad of structures that were damaged in the quake. After contributing to many significant historic rehabilitation projects in the Napa region, Steve has returned to the education sector, designing both new and retrofit public school projects.

Highlights:

    • Complex detailing within the constraints of existing construction while maintaining the integrity of historic materials
    • Extensive experience with public school construction in California through the Division of the State Architect (DSA)
    • In-house management and upkeep of technical specifications

Steve participates in both the Technologies and Operations ownership task groups, which are internal groups working to stay abreast of current technologies and improve operational efficiencies. In this role, he continues to contribute to the growth of the firm, helping to keep ZFA ahead of new code provisions, structural products, and methodologies.

“Our work extends past just structural engineering—strong coordination and communication across all disciplines creates drawings that are more easily constructed and thus provide the best value to the owner.”
